In the heart of Southeast Portland, a unique cooking school caters to both young cooks and adults of all ages. The Portland Cookshop aims to foster friendships through the shared experience of learning to make authentic food. Ashley Yates was content with where life had taken her—until she learned her beloved gym was on the verge of closing. Stepping in with courage and conviction, she purchased Rose City Barbell. Wine Entrepeneur | DeAnna Ornelas

DeAnna Ornelas, accustomed to embracing challenges, encountered a void in community and Latin culture upon relocating from Wichita, Kansas to Portland, Oregon. Notably absent was representation in the wine industry for Mexican Americans like herself. Instead of lamenting, DeAnna sought avenues to empower her community utilizing her skills and knowledge. Among her initiatives fostering inclusivity within the food and hospitality sector is her pop-up series. This brief vignette delves into DeAnna Ornelas's aspiration to celebrate her culture through the mediums of food and wine.

The City of Beaverton’s Building Improvement Program works with small businesses throughout the Beaverton area providing grants & business assistance. The grant program provides new restaurant owners grants of up to $75,000 in building improvement projects. Hapa Pizza is a grantee of this program! From an old paint shop to now a popular pizzeria in Downtown Beaverton, Aaron & Natalie’s dream of owning a restaurant wouldn’t have been possible without the city’s assistance.
